All our clubs have been giving out cards so that customers can enter the prize draw. You can enter as many times as you want to and increase your chances.

On the 14th February, every customers will be given a game card along with their usual bingo tickets. The game cards feature numbers unique to each of our clubs and the club with the most numbers marked off, will become the winning club - this is where it gets more exciting!!

The winning club will hold the free prize draw for their customers and a lucky winner will have the choice of a weekend for two in Paris or £1,000 cash.

Carlton Customers & Staff Donated Over 4500 Items for The Kids In Mind Charity

Bingo has always had a charitable tradition, and we’re delighted that we have continued that tradition since Carlton was founded in 1998.

Kids In Mind was our chosen charity partner for Christmas 2025 and the support from our Carlton Bingo community was more than we had hoped for. The appeal was a secret Santa toy appeal that all our clubs took part in, and we were staggered with the results.

Kids In Mind offers a place of hope and healing for disadvantaged children and young people who have escaped domestic violence.

With the huge generosity from customers and hard work from our staff, we were able to help Kids In Mind create 3298 bespoke gift bags, that contained a mixture of toys, games, toiletries, confectionary, books and other items that the families, carers and teachers of the young people had requested. In addition, there was enough donations to create a further 3873 non-bespoke gifts bag for those children with no specific wishes and just needed a secret Santa surprise.

Mairiona McInelly-Kier, Scottish Ambassador and Trustee for the charity, very kindly provided us with figures for donations from each of our clubs. The donations were either individual items or bespoke gift bags that children had asked for in their letters to Santa.

Carlton Buckie & Elgin donated 700 individual items between them.

Carlton Dalkeith donated 126 gift bags.

Carlton Dunfermline donated 370 gift bags.

Carlton East Kilbride donated 454 individual items.

Carlton Fraserburgh donated 260 bespoke gift bags.

Carlton Inverness donated 289 bespoke gift bags.

Carlton Livingstone donated 856 individual items.

Carlton Partick donated 639 individual items.

Carlton Stirling donated 599 individual items.

This amounted to a staggering 4735 individual items.

Mairiona said:

“All of us at Kids In Mind are deeply grateful for the marvelous support you, your many colleagues and the kind-hearted Carlton Bingo Club communities throughout Scotland have given us over the last few months. The response to the Secret Santa toy appeal was beyond magnificent.”

She also added:

“Thanks in a large part to the kindness of staff and patrons of Carlton Bingo Clubs, we also have sufficient stock left on our shelves so that we will be able to provide toys to top up the Fairy Boxes at the oncology department of Glasgow Children’s Hospital over the coming year and replenish the toys used by families who find themselves having to use the respite and emergency accommodation run by Calum’s Cabins (for families having to travel considerable distances to be with a child undergoing cancer treatment).”

Craig Oliver, Head of Operations for Carlton Bingo said:

“I’m absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity from our customers and staff. Thank you so much for the donations and the hard work of the teams involved across all our clubs. The support for this worthwhile cause will be felt for a very long time and we’re thrilled to be able to help.”

Carlton's Bingo in The Community

Residents in Elgin and Stirling couldn't get to the bingo...

...so we took the bingo to them!

Some of our staff from Carlton's Elgin and Stirling Clubs had the brilliant idea of taking the game of bingo to local care homes.

The scheme was called 'Bingo in The Community' and took place over five days across a number of care homes.

In total, the Carlton team visited four care homes, one retirement home and one day care centre and each community was treated to a session of prize bingo.

The team of staff encouraged the homes to invite the resident's families and friends as with all things bingo, the bigger the crowd the bigger the excitement. A brilliant time was had by all with the age range from 4 years old to over 90 years old and crowds of over 40 in some locations.

Rebecca, General Manager of Carlton Elgin, accompanied by Chloe said:

Chloe and I have visited everywhere together, with other staff jumping in and out. Truthfully I thought it would be great publicity for our Facebook page, but actually we have found the whole experience very humbling. We have met a lot of characters so far and saw staff going above and beyond for the residents. It's been fun exploring the local community and taking Bingo to people that can no longer join us in the clubs.

As someone who has never stepped foot inside a care home before it's nice to see what they get up to, and it's nice knowing that we might be the reason someone's enjoyed their day a bit more.

Helen Braved the Shave

Helen from Carlton Dunfermline raised more than £1700 by

shaving her hair!!

Helen from our Dunfermline club will forever be known as Helen the Brave, for taking the plunge and shaving all her hair in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Helen's sacrifice raised a massive £1701.87.

July Has Been Full of Joy at Carlton Bingo

We've had so many good wins this month......roll on August for many more!!

It's been a really good month for wins so we thought we'd share the joy and show off a few good ones.

Everyone hopes for that big jackpot and we keep our fingers firmly crossed for them, but the smaller ones are a nice treat too. We've had so many this month we're focussing on wins of £1000 or more.

We absolutely love a winner and we especially love seeing our member's faces when they shout "BINGO!!".

Fast forward to today, and National Bingo Day has evolved into National Bingo Week – a full week of bingo-fuelled fun, bringing together our clubs and communities right across Scotland.

Investing in the Customer Experience with an Extensive £800,000 Refurbishment for Inverness

We spared no expense with many improvements for our

club in Inverness

Our club in Inverness has been a big part of the community for 20 years and as part of our investment in the future, we’ve recently given the venue an extensive £800,000 refurbishment.

The work was completed last year, and during the project we kept the club open and fully operational as we know how much the folks of Inverness love their bingo. The team at the club would like to extend their thanks to the loyal customers for their patience and support.

As Carlton is the home of Scotland’s best bingo clubs, we spared no expense and introduced a number of improvements.

We created a brand-new lounge area.
Overhauled the bar area which is now double the size.
Top to bottom refurbishment of the main hall, arcade and book sales areas.
Installation of a state-of-the-art visual media system.

All these improvements are designed to increase the customer experience, creating a more luxurious environment where our bingo players can socialise whilst enjoying their favourite pastime.

We held a huge launch weekend which included late night karaoke and big prize money, and specially arranged visits from our sister clubs in the North for an afternoon party.

Following the launch, the club saw its busiest week since 2019 and long may it continue!

We’re Celebrating a Very Special 100th Birthday for a Customer at Carlton Bingo Stirling!

Mary is celebrating her centenary year with a game of bingo at her favourite club and we’re honoured to have her!!

Mary Cameron, who is affectionally known as May, will be celebrating her 100 ^th birthday on 26 ^th February and we’ll be making a fuss of her as she crosses the huge milestone and joins an elite group of senior citizens.

May has been a member of Carlton Stirling for 30 years and enjoys playing with her friends (Mary, Frances and Margaret) at weekends.

Gary Duncanson, General Manager of Carlton Stirling said:

“We look forward to seeing May play bingo with us every week and we feel especially grateful to be sharing May’s 100th birthday. Congratulations May and here’s to many more.”

May was born in 1925 and as soon as she was old enough (17years and six months), she joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) to help with the war effort during WW2. She worked in the Plotting Room moving icons around various maps which was an early form of air traffic monitoring and played a vital role in the war.

After the war May felt it was time to start a family and had two sons, Alan 1948 and Brian 1951. On her return to work, May was a Clerkess at the Labour College in Tillicoultry then worked in a Tartan Mill, also as a Clerkess.

May shares the same birthday (26 ^th February 1925) as Margaret Thatcher and Jack Lemmon (actor) and 1925 is also the year that the first television picture was transmitted, and the film Ben-Hur was released.

We wish you a very happy birthday May and look forward to you popping in to play your favourite pastime at your favourite club.

Keeping Hungry Customers Satisfied to Running the Club in Just Three Years!

Natasha’s hunger to succeed certainly went beyond the kitchen

Natasha Reid is a prime example of how the desire to learn new skills really does pay off at Carlton Bingo.

Natasha joined the company in 2021, and in under 12 months was promoted to Catering Team Leader at our Club in Fraserburgh, where she ran a very efficient kitchen and looked after the customer’s needs with quality food and service.

In order to increase her skillset, Natasha made a sideways move to Admin Team Leader and by March 2023, accepted the challenge and took on the role of Team Manager.

We’ve always valued the hard work of our staff and continually look for internal career progression opportunities. Natasha was exactly what we were looking for, and we offered her a promotion to General Manager of Fraserburgh, which she accepted late last year. She has taken on the new role with real enthusiasm and we’re looking forward to watching Natasha succeed.

Carlton Customers & Staff Donated Over 900 Gifts for KidsOut Charity

Staff and customers from our clubs at East Kilbride & Stirling blew us away with their generosity and donated over 900 brand new gifts in December for disadvantaged and vulnerable children.

When Carole Sherriff, Manager of our East Kilbride club, heard about the Giving Tree from the KidsOut charity , she just knew that our customers would connect with it. Word soon spread to the Manager of our club in Stirling, Gary Duncanson, who was very keen to get involved.

The Giving Tree is a Christmas initiative from the KidsOut charity, who are dedicated to supporting some of Scotland’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable children with positive and happy experiences.

The idea is that rather than buying anonymous Secret Santa gifts for colleagues, the Giving Tree encourages people to buy a toy for a disadvantaged child who might otherwise receive nothing at all at Christmas. We received Giving Tree tags with the name of a child and the present that they would love to receive from Father Christmas, which gave every gift a personal touch.

Customers and Staff purchased over 900 gifts for the charity, which Carole Sherriff proudly delivered via a huge van to one of the Giving Tree’s collection points in Bridgeton, Glasgow.

Craig Oliver, Operations Manager for Carlton Bingo, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all those involved.

“It's truly amazing that we at Carlton were able to support and facilitate the collection of Christmas gifts for such a wonderful charity. Our customers never fail to disappoint in supporting good causes and this is the latest example.

I would like to thank every customer for their donations and of course Gary, Carole and all the staff for their efforts. Special thanks go out to Carole for all her initial work in bringing this to life.”

Since 2006, Carlton Bingo has donated over £230,000 to many charities, which are picked because they are particularly close to the hearts of our customers and staff. We’re overwhelmed by the generosity and time that everyone is prepared to put into charity events across all our clubs.

Kyle Is a Rising Star of Carlton Stirling

From gaining an MSc Aquatic Pathobiology at the University of Stirling to Team Manager at Carlton Stirling, the love of working in bingo just out trumps science for some.

Our staff really do have varied backgrounds and join us from all walks of life, but we think Kyle’s journey is definitely a unique one.

Before joining Carlton, Kyle Crossan studied Aquatic Pathology at The University of Stirling which is currently the only Masters degree of its kind in the world.

Kyle joined the company on Halloween Night 2017 as Team Assistant, left us for a short spell during Covid, then returned to us in 2021. His duties included most aspects of bingo club life including Sales, Bar, Cash Office, Calling and MCB Control.

As a result of hard work and really thriving on the responsibility given to him, Kyle was promoted to Senior Team Assistant earlier this year. He was very good at what he did and learned new skills so well, he was promoted to Team Manager in October.

In his spare time, 29-year-old Kyle likes to bake, fish, watch tennis, but his main passion is playing bingo, where he’s often spotted in many clubs around Scotland trying to land that big jackpot win.

We look forward to watching Kyle gain new skills and grow in his role at Carlton Bingo…. the sky is the limit.

Well done Kyle, you’re a real asset to Carlton Stirling!

Shannon’s Three-Year Climb to Career Success

Part-time team member to Assistant Manager in just three years, Shannon is a real grafter.

We love to watch our staff progress, and we get a lot of satisfaction from seeing them flourish.

Shannon Drylie joined Carlton bingo in September 2021 and her journey is a great example of how we like to promote from within and encourage staff to learn new skills.

Her first role was as a part-time staff member at our club in Dunfermline and we saw her potential almost straight away.

Shannon was given more responsibility and in 2022 promoted to Gaming Team Leader, where she had an almost immediate effect within the organisation. She was instrumental in the training of a huge number of staff, including Bingo Callers, Bar Staff and Catering Staff.

With her work ethic and capabilities shining through, we just knew that Shannon would thrive in a more senior role, and in November 2024 she was promoted to Assistant Manager.

Recently celebrating her 25th birthday, we’re confident that Shannon will be a real asset, and we look forward to watching her get her teeth into the new role.

From Maternity Leave to Team Manager, There’s No Stopping Kylie

A very busy family life is not holding back Kylie’s chance to progress her career at Carlton Bingo!

Kylie McRae-Webster is one busy lady but still finds the time to optimise her abilities at work.

She joined Carlton Bingo in Spring 2022 as Team Assistant at our club in Elgin and really enjoyed the challenge.

Married to Shaun and Mother to five children (ages ranging from 1 to 16) Kylie was used to being on her toes and certainly knew how to make the most of her multi-tasking skills. We saw some real potential and knew that there was more that Kylie could offer.

When she returned from Maternity Leave and was keen to apply for a more senior role, we couldn’t believe our luck and offered her the chance to progress to Team Manager.

We’re excited to see what Kylie can do and look forward to all her contributions!

A Gradual Retirement Plan for Findlay

You can’t put a price on the experience that Dunfermline is about to gain!

Findlay Meechan, currently our manager at Carlton Dalkeith, has decided to take a step down as part of his gradual retirement plan, and will soon be joining Carlton Dunfermline in a part-time role.

Findlay worked at our Dunfermline club from 2015 to 2020 so is no stranger to the venue and everything it has to offer our customers.

A gradual or phased retirement is a good option for some, as it offers the opportunity to take your foot off the throttle and enjoy a more relaxing lifestyle.

The experience that Findlay has is priceless as he’s been working in the world of bingo almost as long as the game has been around. Here's a rundown of Findlay's previous roles over the years:

1979 - 1982 - First job in bingo. Caller at M&M Entertainments

1982 - 1983 - Caller at Flight Leisure Kinema

1983 - 1986 - Manager at MBE Leisure 101 Club Rosyth

1986 - 1987 - Manager at CAC Leisure Musselburgh

1987 - 1989 - Queensferry Moat House, time out from Bingo

1989 - 1993 - Sovereign Leisure Picture House Cumnock

1993 - 1999 - Forth Bingo Area Manager

2000 - 2007 - NB Leisure Area Manager

2007 - present - Carlton Bingo

We’re delighted to have him stay within the company for that bit longer. Dalkeith’s loss is a definite gain for Dunfermline.

Findlay is incredibly well travelled and can now spend more time doing the things he loves.

From Inverness to Livingston, Nathan is Stepping Up!

Nathan will soon be the new Manager at Carlton Bingo Livingston

Nathan Mackenzie, currently deputy manager at our club in Inverness, will soon be taking the reins at Carlton Livingston as club manager and we can’t wait for him to get started.

Having so far spent eight years at Carlton Bingo, Nathan joined us with a very broad background of experience, which we think makes him the perfect person for the role of manager. During his student years, he worked as a baker for Asda, salesman at DFS, kitchen porter in his local pub, then spent two years at WHS as a shop assistant.

Post education, Nathan trained as a journalist and worked at The Scotsman, Evening Times and The Highland News, before joining the management team at Ladbrokes.

His previous experience of bingo was visiting with his Mum and Auntie to celebrate his birthday every year, which helped give him a real understanding of what the customer wants and needs to feel valued and enjoy a good game of bingo.

When Nathan was 16, he was made Vice President of the Confederation of European New Federations, an organisation which oversaw and assisted football in nations outside of UEFA. He also sat on CONIFA, the world governing body for football outside of FIFA. He carried out this volunteer role for over three years, assisting nations that included Tibet, Monaco, Greenland and Kurdistan.

Nathan is obsessed with sport and spends his free time travelling Scotland to follow his beloved Inverness Caledonian Thistle. He loves to travel and plans to visit Germany to watch the Euros and Paris for the upcoming Olympics.

Craig Climbs the Ladder from Carlton Dunfermline to Carlton’s Executive Team

We’re delighted to announce that Craig Oliver has been promoted to the Exec Team, where he will be in an operations role supporting all our clubs.

Craig, who is manager of Carlton Dunfermline, joined the company 11 years ago and has been in the industry for his entire adult life. He’s worked all over England and Scotland, gaining huge amounts of experience and knowledge along the way.

As a schoolboy Craig always had a strong work ethic and earned money from cutting grass and selling programmes at Kilmarnock FC. He’s always enjoyed hard work and loves the benefits that it gives him, especially the chance to travel for holidays.

Whilst Craig’s departure from Dunfermline will be a big loss to his team, we really do think that it will be a massive gain and huge benefit for the wider company.

Well done from all of us Craig – we’re excited to watch you succeed in your new role!

Farewell but not goodbye to Carlton Livingston’s Lauren & Graham

Spring is in the air, a natural time for fresh beginnings at Carlton Bingo

We love to see our staff flourish and Livingston will soon say farewell to Lauren Wallbanks and Graham Lowson who will both be moving to other Carlton clubs.

Lauren, who is currently manager at Livingston, will soon be joining the team at Dunfermline as their manager.

With over 20 years’ experience in bingo, Lauren joined the company straight from college aged 18 and has never looked back. She has worked at seven of our clubs making Dunfermline her 8 ^th and we’re excited to watch the positive contributions that Lauren will make.

Graham is assistant manager at Livingston, but he’s been helping at our other clubs, most recently supporting Fraserburgh.

We are very pleased to announce that Graham will be stepping up to manager at Carlton Dalkeith. After spending time at six of our clubs during his five years with Carlton Bingo, we couldn’t be happier with his new appointment.

Graham is very experienced at working in fast-paced environments and during his time at university worked in McDonalds before joining the Carlton team. His main hobby is football but obviously bingo is a very close second.

Did you know Bingo was originally played in church halls to raise money for local communities?

Over the years the game of Bingo has evolved from church halls to the plush venues you see today, and here at Carlton Bingo we continue to follow the charitable traditions of the game......although on a larger scale than the average church fundraiser!

Since 2006, we have donated over £230,000 to some of the most deserving charities around. The charities we choose are picked because they are particularly close to the hearts of our customers and staff. Click here to see a full list of our annual fundraising achievements.

During 2023, we raised money through a series of club events and special bingo games, where customers contributed to charity via a stake, with the chance to win a linked cash prize. This maintained the thrill of the game, the chance to win a prize and raised funds for good causes - a win-win for all involved.

We also organised a charity golf day with 36 participants from across the bingo sector, and raised funds for The Bingo Association's nominated charity - Variety The Children's Charity.

Since 2015 The Bingo Association and its members and their customers have raised an amazing £1.7 million for Variety and have made such a positive impact on the lives of people in our local communities.

We're overwhelmed by the generosity of customers and the hard work that our staff put into charity events in our Bingo Clubs all over the country, and we will continue to raise money for worthy causes.

Gemma Murray has recently taken on a new challenge and has been appointed Temporary General Manager for Carlton Fraserburgh for the next six months.

Gemma, who has been valued member of the company for seven years, was Assistant Manager at our club in East Kilbride and worked previously in both our Stirling and Partick clubs.

We're really excited to give Gemma this opportunity to show us how much she's learned over the years and we think the role will really suit her skill set. During Gemma's first week she really was put to the test as the club had to close for two days due to snow!!

Playing Bingo at Our Dunfermline Club May Bring You Luck - It Certainly Did for Nine Lucky Winners Last Month!

Last month we paid out nearly £40,000 prize money and we're looking forward to the next BIG WIN!

Whilst none of our customers were lucky enough to win the £50,000 jackpot on the National Bingo Game last month (our fingers are firmly crossed for that to change this month), we were over-the-moon to pay out numerous smaller wins to our lovely members.

There were 17 winners across all ten of our clubs, resulting in payouts of nearly £40,000.

Carlton Dunfermline held all the luck with a total of nine winners who called house on various prize amounts that totalled almost £22,000. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled to see if this is a long-term lucky streak for Dunfermline or just a one off......time will tell!

The second luckiest club last month was Carlton Inverness, followed very closely by Carlton Livingston.

Our Club's Christmas parties sold out.

Much fun was had by all and lots of food & drink was enjoyed...we're already looking forward to next year!

Whilst we love our bingo, we also love Christmas and combining our two favourite things into one big party is what we do best.

Sunday 10th December was Christmas party day across all our clubs and we couldn't have been happier. There were special bingo prizes, entertainment and the all important Christmas dinner washed down by lots of bubbly.

Our Longest Serving Member of Staff Retires After 43 Years!!

Farewell Lorraine Drylie...enjoy your retirement, we think you've earned it!

Lorraine Drylie has retired after 43 years services with Carlton Bingo.

Lorraine worked at our Dunfermline Club, (also known locally as Fife Leisure Park) and we wish her all the very best for the future.

Lorraine added much value in her roles over the years and she will be missed, but we're hoping she'll keep in touch.

Lorraine had an official send off during the Club's Christmas party on Sunday 10th December.

Craig Oliver, general manager said:

“Lorraine told me in 2020 she was retiring later that year. She said the same in 2021, 2022 and again in 2023 so I wasn’t sure but she finally decided to put her feet up on Sunday.”

Craig hosted tributes to Lorraine from people of the past through video, speeches, and anecdotes. Lorraine called the last game of the day, and she was sung off the stage to a rendition of Doris Days’ Que Sera, sung by the bingo players and guests.

Thank you so much for all your hard work Lorraine, now go and enjoy some time to yourself!

Last month saw the retirement of Ian McIntosh, who worked for Carlton Bingo as Machine Controller for an impressive 28 years! lan was a huge part of Carlton Bingo Clubs and he will be hugely missed.

lan started working with us in July 1995 and has been a massive asset to Carlton over the years. With his wealth of knowledge, not only in machines and bingo engineering, but in most things in life Ian is one of those all round good men.

Whilst we say congratulations, your retirement will be a loss on both a professional level and on a personal level for all our employees who worked with you over the years.

THANK YOU Ian, you've aways worked so hard for us, now it's time to relax and enjoy your retirement.

Lauren started in Livingston at 18, then progressed through our staff and management training schemes, and after several Clubs returned to Livingston as General Manager.

Ann is the Team Manager in Partick and has been with us for an incredible 20 years after starting with the company in October 2003, what an achievement!

Carlton Charity Golf Day in Aid of Variety Children's Charity

Annual charity golf day was a real hit!

Our annual invitational charity golf day took place at the beautiful Mar Hall earlier this year.

Participants gathered from all parts of the UK to challenge for the Champion Trophy but, more importantly, to raise funds for the Bingo Association’s nominated charity – Variety.

The day was attended by bingo operators, sector suppliers and contractors, as well as a number of Carlton Club employees. Huge thanks go to all our sponsors who provided support on the day.

The Bingo Association has been supporting Variety for a number of years now and is aiming to top the £2Million mark for funds raised, by May 2024.

Variety , the Children's Charity provides practical help that makes an immediate difference to disabled and disadvantaged children and young people.

The golf day played its part helping to raise £1,135 and, when added to funds raised so far this year, it's now totalling £7,000 from our very generous Carlton Club customers. All the money raised has been sent to Variety to fund various projects.

We are always overwhelmed by the generosity of customers and the work staff put into charity events in our Bingo Clubs all over the country, and we will continue to raise money for more worthy causes.

Friday 13th was definitely lucky for a player in our Elgin club!!

Despite the superstition that surrounds Friday 13th, Lady Luck was smiling on one of our regular members at Carlton Bingo Elgin!

Whilst Friday 13 ^th October may be considered a bad day for some, it was a big day for bingo players across the country, who dispensed with superstition and flocked to our clubs to take part in the £13,000 Mega Link Game.

A regular player from Carlton Bingo Elgin, scooped the Full House in an incredible 36 numbers.

The whole club went 'quackers' when the winner (who has chosen to remain anonymous) called house on number 22, sparking huge celebrations from the whole club, especially when everyone realised that she'd just won £10,000.

Elgin Duty Manager Shona, was over the moon for the winner. On congratulating the lucky lady, she confirmed that she plans to use some of the winnings to celebrate and go out for drinks with family & friends, and it would also help her complete a home improvement project of installing a log burner.

Everyone at Carlton Bingo would like to wish Wendy a huge congratulations for reaching 30 years service!!

Wendy Clark joined Carlton Bingo on 9th October 1992 as a Customer Assistant and has since worked incredibly hard, progressing through the organisation.

Wendy took part in our Management Training Programme at our bingo halls in Inverness and Elgin. On completion Wendy earned the position of Manger at Buckie and has never looked back.

Wendy celebrated her outstanding service with colleagues and members of the club.

Carlton Bingo Staff hit the jackpot in Scotland’s largest employee takeover

We're The First Bingo Company in UK to Adopt

Employee Ownership

All of our 209-strong trusted employees are set to bag a full house, as we have just become the country's largest and latest employee-owned firm.

Following a positive rebound after the challenges and closures brought about by the pandemic, we've now put the shares into an Employee Ownership Trust [EOT], which will see all staff given a controlling stake in the business.

Our four major shareholders Chris Barr, George Carter, Brian King and Peter Perrins decided to transition the business into employee ownership after considering their succession options and acknowledging their staff’s loyalty and commitment.

George Carter said: “It might sound like a cliché but we are very much like a family business here. The sale to an EOT fitted exactly with what we wanted. We have to wait a few years to realise our full value, but we judged that to be a risk worth taking to preserve all that’s good about Carlton for our customers and our staff. A management buyout was a real possibility – our management team are hugely respected within the business – but that really only defers the problem of succession. By transferring the shareholding to an EOT, the future of Carlton Bingo is secure for our loyal staff and customers.”

The four main shareholders have been involved in the bingo industry for most of their careers and were driven to find an exit solution that lessened any disruption to staff and customers.

Managing Director, Mike Watret took what he viewed as a temporary job upon graduating from Stirling University in 1991. Mike then went on to have a successful career with Gala Bingo and returned to Carlton 10 years ago.

Mike said: “I didn’t expect to be back here 30 years later. It’s a great job working with a great team of people.”

Finance Director, Leslie Ross, who has worked at Carlton for almost 30 years, highlighted the significant length of service dedicated to Carlton by many of the employees: “The combined company length of service stands at over 1500 years. We recently celebrated a 40 year service anniversary for one employee in Dunfermline. Carlton has a great culture that fosters commitment and long service.“

The company was hit significantly during the Covid crisis, with one club being closed for a total of 400 days.

Mike added: “We have recovered well from what was a challenging time. Eight of our 10 locations exceeded their targets for March and several are outperforming their 2019 results. This is testament to the hard work and loyalty of our staff who have done a sterling job in ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for our customers.

“If I had any doubts that this was the right way forward, they were banished when we delivered the news to the employees. There are challenges ahead, but with our great team here I’m confident that we’ll overcome them.”

Carole Leslie of Ownership Associates , who worked with directors on the programme of employee communication, said: “It was a fabulous experience meeting so many employees who are so loyal to their company and genuinely enjoy their jobs.

“The idea of employee ownership was largely unknown by most of the staff, but once explained, was recognised as a generous gesture by the former shareholders.”

The transaction was managed by Avondale Corporate and Douglas Roberts and Nimarta Cheema of Lindsays provided the legal advice.

Douglas Roberts a partner at Lindsays, said: “We were delighted to assist the team at Carlton Bingo in what is a significant step for EOTs in Scotland. It’s encouraging to see a company of the scale of Carlton Bingo adopting employee ownership, proving it’s an option that fits with businesses of all sizes.”

DJ, who joined us on 31st May 2012, has always been a valuable member of the team and a firm favourite with the customers. When the announcement was made on the Inverness Club Facebook Page, over 120 customers commented to congratulate DJ on his milestone achievement.

Carlton Partick Member wins a huge £150,000 Jackpot!!

A lucky Partick Member had her Saturday night

well and truly SUPERSIZED!!

A lucky member of Carlton Bingo Partick had her Saturday night SUPER SIZED when she called ‘house’ on the National Bingo Game, scooping a special ‘supersized’ life changing £150,000 jackpot!

The 57 year-old mother of one and grandmother of two is a regular at Carlton Bingo Partick, attending with her husband, who was with her on the night.

Bingo is very much a family affair for the fortunate winner who was introduced to bingo by her mother, who still plays at the club, and whose daughter, though not there on the night of the win, also a fan.

There were cheers when the claim was confirmed, but when the caller announced that it was Supersize Saturdays on the National Bingo Game and that the prize was actually £150,000, the club went mad and the winner looked completely overwhelmed.

When asked if she had any lucky charms, the winner replied:

“Only my husband. We have been together for forty years and he is my bingo buddy, though he jokes about being more like my bingo chauffeur! After this I think a new car may be on the cards!”

The winner and her husband are looking forward to treating their daughter and grandchildren, but also have exciting plans to travel, as they have never been on a plane or left the country. The lucky winner said:

“I have always wanted to go to the Maldives so, we'lll be getting our passports and making a booking.”

Gary Duncanson, General Manager at Carlton Bingo Partick said, “It is always great to see people win, we had a £50,000 National Bingo Game winner in July last year, but there is something really wonderful about seeing a regular win something this big! £150,000 is an utterly amazing amount of money."

All players must be aged 18 or over. The National Bingo Game is played under the provisions of the Gambling Act 2005 and National Bingo Game Players’ Rules apply.

Promotions advertised apply to the named session on Saturday 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th May 2022 ONLY:

Saturday afternoon Community Prize: £50,000 Community Prize. For a participating club to successfully claim a Community Prize on any of the dates stated above, an individual player participating in that playing of the National Bingo Game must win a Prize in the lowest number of calls in the country. If more than one winner successfully claims in the same lowest number of calls, then the Community Prize for that playing of the National Bingo Game will be split equally between the clubs successfully registering a valid claim on that number of calls.
The Community Prize, or share of, won by the club/s is then divided equally between the number of people who participated in that playing of the National Bingo Game in that winning club.

Saturday evenings Extra Jackpot Prize. On each of the above stated dates an extra £50,000 will be added to the top Jackpot Prize on 16 calls or less of the National Bingo Game. If there is no winner on 16 calls or less, the Extra Jackpot Prize rolls over to the next Saturday and accumulates until won:

7th May: £100,000 prize (£50,000 Jackpot Prize + £50,000 extra)
14th May: £150,000* prize (£50,000 Jackpot Prize + £100,000 extra)
21tst May: £200,000* prize (£50,000 Jackpot Prize + £150,000 extra)
26th May: £250,000* prize (£50,000 Jackpot Prize + £200,000 extra)

*Unless the prize was claimed on a previous Saturday evening, following which the Prize will reset, starting again at £100,000 (£50,000 Jackpot Prize + £50,000 added prize). Any additional prize money not won by close fo the National Bingo Game on Saturday 28th May 2022 will be carried over to each successive Saturday evening until won.

Players successfully winning on 16 numbers or less will each receive their respective House Prize, a £50,000 Jackpot Prize and an equal share of the additional prize money available to be won on that playing of the National Bingo Game: if there is only one valid claim on 16 calls or less, then that winner will win their respective Hosue Prize, a £50,000 Jackpot Prize and all the additional prize money available on that playing of the National Bingo Game.

The amount of added prize money available each Saturday evening of the promotion will depend upon any successful claim having been made in a preceding week of the promotion.

House Prizes remain available to be won and regular full house Jackpot Prize values and win criteria remain unchanged:

£ 1,000 on 20 numbers or less
